Salem Girls Track Team Dominates at County Meet

The Salem girls track team continued their streak of excellence by dominating the 120th Columbiana County Track and Field Meet on Tuesday. The Quakers scored an impressive 184 1/2 points, securing their seventh consecutive county title.

Coach Bethany Glasser was thrilled with the team’s performance, noting that there were numerous personal records set across the board. Salem’s total of 184 1/2 points was the second-highest in county history, with Crestview coming in second with 93 points.

The Quakers showcased their talent by winning 11 events, setting two meet records and one school record. Senior Megan Stafford stood out as a four-time county champion, winning both the 3200-meter run and the 3200 relay.

Other standout performances included senior Kaylee Carlisle winning high-point honors in the field events, junior Maggie Hall breaking the meet record in the 1600 run, and senior Annika Murray setting a school record in the 300 hurdles.

Despite facing tough competition, the Salem girls team displayed exceptional teamwork and determination. Glasser praised the underclassmen for their enthusiasm and performance, highlighting their potential for future success.

The team’s focus now shifts to the upcoming Eastern Buckeye Conference meet at West Branch, where they will aim to continue their winning streak. With a strong league and promising talent, the Salem girls track team is poised for continued success in the season ahead.
