Imen Sfaxi, a Tunisian expat and Abu Dhabi resident, was recently honored with the prestigious Abu Dhabi Award for her heroic actions during a devastating fire in the Khalidiya area back in 2022. Sfaxi’s quick thinking and selflessness saved the lives of eight people in a fire caused by a pipeline explosion, despite sustaining severe injuries that left her wheelchair-bound.

The incident occurred on May 23, 2022, when a fire broke out in a residential building, resulting in significant damage. Despite being advised to stay home, Sfaxi disregarded her own safety and rushed to the scene to help those in need. She evacuated people from the building and provided first aid to the injured, displaying immense courage and bravery.

Sfaxi’s husband, Sami Messaoudi, expressed his admiration for her courageous act, emphasizing that it was a call from God that prompted her to help others. Dr. Saif Juma Al Dhaheri, a spokesperson for NCEMA, praised Sfaxi’s quick thinking and selflessness, highlighting the significance of her actions in the face of adversity.

Despite the challenges she now faces as a wheelchair-bound individual, Sfaxi expressed no regrets for her actions. Her friends and loved ones rallied around her, showing unwavering support and admiration for her bravery. Sfaxi’s determination and resilience serve as an inspiration to all, earning her a well-deserved recognition at the eleventh edition of the Abu Dhabi Awards alongside seven other individuals who have made significant contributions to the community in various fields.
