A coalition of 11 prominent organizations in the lifelong learning and skills sector has unveiled their 10 policy priorities for the upcoming government, aiming to enhance post-16 education and create more opportunities for individuals of all ages. The campaign, titled ‘Future Priorities for Lifelong Learning, Skills and Tertiary Education’, emphasizes the importance of breaking down barriers to education and expanding life chances for all.
The 10 policy priorities outlined by the coalition include urgent reviews of current Department of Education policies, reforming the Lifelong Learning Entitlement, developing a sustainable strategy for the tertiary sector, and ensuring apprenticeships are available across all sectors. Additionally, the coalition calls for the establishment of a national Careers Information, Advice, and Guidance service, increased investment in post-16 education, and regional strategic planning for education.
Supported by leading institutions such as Birkbeck University of London, City and Guilds, and TechUK, the campaign has garnered praise from Lord David Blunkett, Chair of the Labour Council of Skills Advisors. Blunkett commended the comprehensive program of ideas presented in the report, highlighting the potential for transforming the British economy and reducing inequality through improved skills and lifelong learning initiatives.
The Right 2 Learn campaign, which advocates for the right to learn throughout life, has engaged with over 400 organizations since its inception in 2020. With the backing of the National Education Opportunities Network, the coalition is poised to influence the next government’s education policies and drive positive change in the lifelong learning and skills sector.
