Rain and Hail Scattered Across Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The United Arab Emirates experienced unusual weather conditions today as heavy rain and hailstorms hit various areas in Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah. The unexpected downpour was accompanied by strong winds, creating a spectacle for residents and visitors alike.

In Fujairah, the towns of Asimah and Wadi Abadla were surprised by heavy rain and small hailstones, while Masafi in Ras Al Khaimah also witnessed a similar phenomenon. In Dubai, the Jebel Ali–Lehbab road saw moderate to heavy rain in scattered areas, adding to the city’s already bustling atmosphere. Sharjah was not spared either, with Sharjah International Airport, Maliha, Saadia, Al Dhaid Street, and Al Siouh towards Khor Fakkan and Al Batayeh experiencing the same weather conditions. Even in the quieter areas like Al Qurain, light rain made its presence felt. Ras Al Khaimah, on the other hand, saw moderate to heavy rainfall in various parts of the region.

The National Center of Meteorology has attributed these unusual weather patterns to a surface low-pressure system originating from the Red Sea, which is expected to linger over the country until Saturday, May 4th. This system, coupled with moist southeast winds and an upper-level low-pressure system from the northwest, has created ideal conditions for the formation of cumulonimbus clouds, leading to moderate to heavy rain in scattered areas. Lightning, thunder, and even hail are expected to accompany the rain, making it a truly unique weather event for the region. The rain is forecasted to start from the west on Wednesday night and gradually spread across most parts of the country by Thursday, focusing on the western regions, coasts, and some eastern areas.

As a precautionary measure, the National Center of Meteorology has issued warnings about heavy rain and advised residents to exercise caution during downpours, especially in certain eastern and northern areas. Strong winds may also reduce horizontal visibility, so it is crucial to avoid wadis and areas with water accumulation and follow safety procedures during rainfall.

Yesterday, the country experienced a wide temperature range, with the highest temperature recorded at 41.2°C in Wathayyah (Al Dhafra region) and the lowest temperature at 16.5°C in Jebel Jais (Ras Al Khaimah). These fluctuations in temperature, coupled with the unexpected rain and hail, have made for an eventful few days in the UAE.

As residents and visitors continue to marvel at the unusual weather phenomenon, it is essential to stay informed and heed the advice of meteorological authorities to ensure safety and well-being during this period of unpredictable weather.
