Randeep Hooda, the talented Bollywood actor, recently visited the Cellular Jail in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands ahead of Indian freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar’s 141st birth anniversary. Savarkar was sentenced to life imprisonment totaling fifty years in this very jail, making it a significant location for the actor to pay his respects.
Hooda, who portrayed Savarkar in the biopic ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar,’ expressed his deep connection with the role. He shared his experience of studying Savarkar’s life and trying to embody it on screen, stating that receiving validation from those who knew Savarkar personally, such as the Mangeshkar family, was a great honor for him.
The actor was recently honored with the prestigious Swatantrya Veer Savarkar Award in Mumbai for his portrayal of the freedom fighter in the biopic. ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’ is a cinematic representation of Savarkar’s life, produced by Zee Studios, Anand Pandit, Sandeep Singh, Randeep Hooda, and Yogesh Rahar.
The film, starring Randeep Hooda, Ankita Lokhande, and Amit Sial, was released in Hindi and Marathi on March 22. It encapsulates Savarkar’s 53-year life in a 3-hour narrative, showcasing his influence and controversy during the Indian Independence struggle.
Hooda’s dedication to portraying Savarkar truthfully and powerfully has been recognized by both the film industry and Savarkar’s close associates, making his visit to the Cellular Jail a poignant tribute to the freedom fighter’s legacy.
