Rapid River Rockets Track and Field Team Shows Promise in Season Opener

The Rapid River Rockets track and field team kicked off their season with a strong showing at the Gladstone meet, finishing as runners-up to the host Braves. Coach Steve Ostrenga was pleased with the team’s performance, especially considering they have 22 athletes on their roster.

Ostrenga highlighted the leadership of the team’s four seniors, including relay specialist Blake Lundquist and middle distance runner Nate Moore. He also praised newcomers Conner Kee and Colton Stemick for their contributions in sprints, relays, and weight events.

The Rockets also have a solid group of juniors who cover a wide range of events, providing versatility and depth to the team. The sophomore class and a promising group of 11 freshmen add to the team’s potential for success this season.

Looking ahead, Rapid River will compete in several upcoming invitationals, including the Delta County Invitational at Bark River-Harris High School. The Rockets will also host their own invitational and participate in the Division 3 regional meet in May before heading to the Skyline Central Conference and U.P. Finals in June.

With a mix of experienced seniors, talented underclassmen, and a dedicated coaching staff, the Rapid River Rockets are poised to make their mark in the track and field season. Stay tuned for more updates on their progress as they continue to compete and strive for success.
