RCB dominates DC in IPL 2024 match, climbs to fifth in standings

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Royal Challengers Bengaluru pulled off a stunning victory against Delhi Capitals in a must-win game to keep their hopes alive for a spot in the Indian Premier League playoffs. The match, held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, saw RCB defending a modest total of 187 runs to secure a 47-run win.

The game started with DC losing Impact Player David Warner early on, but Jake Fraser-McGurk tried to ignite the chase with some aggressive strokes. However, a mix-up with his partner led to his run out, leaving DC struggling at 24 for three. Despite efforts from Shai Hope and stand-in skipper Axar Patel, the Capitals couldn’t recover from the early setbacks.

On the batting front, RCB seemed poised for a big total with a strong start in the PowerPlay overs. Virat Kohli, Will Jacks, and Rajat Patidar contributed with crucial runs, but a collapse in the lower middle-order prevented them from posting a bigger score. Despite some fielding lapses from DC, RCB couldn’t capitalize on the momentum and failed to finish strongly in the final overs.

The match was not short of drama, with Kohli engaging in banter with Ishant Sharma and some missed opportunities in the field. However, RCB’s bowlers stepped up to the challenge and restricted DC to secure a crucial win in their quest for a playoff spot. With this victory, RCB has now won five consecutive matches and climbed to fifth place in the IPL table with 12 points.
