RCB’s Cameron Green reveals battle with chronic kidney disease and strict dietary routine ahead of IPL 2024

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Cameron Green, the young all-rounder for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), is not just excelling in the IPL, but he is also battling a chronic kidney disease. Despite his health condition, Green has been delivering outstanding performances on the field, showcasing his determination and resilience.

Diagnosed with chronic kidney disease last year, Green has been managing his condition with a strict diet regimen. However, the challenges go beyond just dietary restrictions. The emotional toll of dealing with a chronic illness while playing professional cricket is something Green has been open about. He recently visited the Bangalore Kidney Foundation to raise awareness about the disease and the importance of early detection and management.

In a virtual interaction, Green shared, “It’s sometimes challenging, especially in India. Sometimes, it’s limited food options. With my condition, I’ve got to look after my salt and protein. I’ve got to keep that to a minimum around cricket.” Despite the restrictions, Green allows himself some leeway on match days to ensure he can perform at his best.

Chronic kidney disease is a progressive condition that can have serious implications if not managed properly. It is essential to raise awareness about the disease and encourage early detection to prevent complications like kidney failure. Green’s story serves as an inspiration not just on the cricket field but also in his battle against a chronic illness.
