Crestview Rebels Fall to Garfield in Tough Loss

COLUMBIANA–Crestview started off strong but couldn’t overcome constant mistakes in the field as they fell 16-5 to Garrettsville Garfield in a Mahoning Valley Athletic Grey Conference matchup on Monday. The Rebels finished with five errors, hindering their chances of a comeback.

Head coach Todd Kibby acknowledged the team’s struggles, stating, “Definitely wasn’t our best performance on the field. Last week was five games in five days, testing the strength of our bullpen and the mental toughness of our team. That’s where we were exposed today.”

With this loss, Crestview’s record now stands at 9-2 overall and 8-1 in the MVAC Grey Tier, while Garfield improves to 7-4 and 7-1 in the MVAC Grey Tier. The two teams, along with LaBrae, are currently in a three-way tie for first place in the MVAC Grey Tier.

Despite the disappointing outcome, Kibby highlighted the positive experience of playing against former rival Columbiana last week, expressing a desire to schedule more games against them in the future.

Garfield, on the other hand, capitalized on Crestview’s errors, scoring 16 runs on 12 hits. The G-Men’s bottom of the order came up big, with Garet Warnick leading the charge with three hits and three RBIs.

Pitcher Aiden Hill was a standout for Garfield, earning the win with 14 strikeouts and zero earned runs allowed.

Crestview will look to bounce back quickly as they face Garfield again in their next game. Kibby emphasized the importance of having a short-term memory in baseball, urging his team to move on from this loss and focus on the next challenge.
