Lewisburg sophomore Baylee Espinosa had quite the day at the Selinsgrove Invitational Track Tournament, despite a rocky start in the 3,200 relay race. A dropped baton didn’t deter Espinosa, who picked it up and sprinted to victory, securing first place for her team.

But Espinosa’s day was far from over. In the 1,600 run, she had her sights set on breaking a meet record set by Lewisburg alum Jenna Farmer. Despite challenging wind conditions, Espinosa crossed the finish line in 5:05.10, setting a new meet record and coming close to her mother’s program record.

Williamsport seniors Anyae Grissom and Elizabeth Shultz also shone at the tournament, with Grissom breaking her own record in the 100-meter hurdles and Shultz setting a new meet record in the 400-meter dash.

Overall, the area athletes dominated the competition, with eight first-place finishes and multiple records broken. Williamsport head coach Vicki Eberhart praised her team’s performance, noting the numerous personal records and new records set throughout the day.

Despite challenging weather conditions, the athletes showed resilience and determination, with Lewisburg coach Michael Espinosa commending his team’s competitive mentality. With plenty of time left in the season, the Selinsgrove Classic was just a taste of the success to come for these talented athletes.
