Red Hat Summit 2024 in Denver, Colorado was abuzz with excitement as the open source software leader unveiled major new initiatives to bring the power of generative AI to the enterprise. The headliners of the event were Red Hat Enterprise Linux AI (RHEL AI) and InstructLab, both aimed at revolutionizing the way AI is integrated and utilized in production environments.

RHEL AI, a foundation model platform for developing and running open source language models, sets itself apart from the competition with its focus on open source and a hybrid approach. Red Hat CEO Matt Hicks emphasized the company’s commitment to neutrality in hardware infrastructure, allowing AI models to run anywhere. Additionally, Red Hat has a proven track record of optimizing performance across different hardware stacks, ensuring maximum efficiency for customers.

InstructLab, on the other hand, enables domain experts to enhance AI models with their knowledge through a novel method called LAB. This method generates high-quality synthetic training data from a small number of examples provided by experts, allowing for continuous improvement and fine-tuning of AI models.

The event also saw the announcement of OpenShift AI 2.9, with new features for serving both predictive and generative models, as well as an expanded partner ecosystem. Red Hat’s commitment to giving customers flexibility and choice in deploying AI was reiterated throughout the event.

With the launch of RHEL AI and InstructLab, Red Hat aims to democratize AI and make it accessible to a broad community through open source, much like it did with Linux and Kubernetes. The company’s vision is to accelerate the adoption of generative AI in the enterprise by empowering domain experts to enhance models with their knowledge and deploy them in production environments with trust and support. The future of AI integration in production looks promising with Red Hat leading the way.
