Indian Mothers Concerned About Kids’ Screen Time, Report Reveals

A recent report has shed light on the growing concern among Indian mothers regarding the screen time of their children. According to the report released by market research firm Techarc on Mother’s Day, a staggering 89 per cent of Indian mothers are worried about the amount of time their kids spend in front of screens.

The survey, which included 600 working mothers from four metro cities with children in grades 3-10, highlighted the impact of increased screen time on children’s studies and overall mental and physical health. Privacy issues, exposure to inappropriate content, influence of teenage influencers, deep fakes, and impersonation were among the other top concerns expressed by mothers.

While mothers acknowledged the benefits of the digital world for children compared to five years ago, they also expressed apprehensions about the potential negative effects of emerging technologies like VR headsets. The report indicated that mothers fear these devices could lead to decreased attentiveness and increased distractions among children.

To address the issue of excessive screen time, the report suggested various strategies for parents, such as setting time limits on devices, engaging in face-to-face interactions, and encouraging outdoor activities like playing, cycling, and drawing.

Overall, the report underscores the need for parents to strike a balance between the benefits and risks of digital technology in their children’s lives. Trusted digital partners like Amazon, Swiggy, and Disney Hotstar were identified as key platforms for mothers to navigate the digital landscape for their families.
