Rep Crockett stands by slanging match with Marjorie Taylor Greene without regrets

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Democratic Rep Jasmine Crockett is standing by her now-viral comments about Marjorie Taylor Greene during an explosive hearing on the House floor on Thursday night. The fiery exchange between the two lawmakers culminated in Ms Crockett throwing an insult about a “bleach blond, bad-built butch body” in Ms Greene’s direction, after Ms Greene insulted Ms Crockett’s “fake eyelashes.”

When asked if she regretted her comments on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Ms Crockett made it clear that she did not. She stated, “I signed up to be a member of Congress. That didn’t mean I was supposed to walk into a position where I’m going to walk in and be disrespected.”

The tension between the two congresswomen escalated during a House hearing to determine if US Attorney General Merrick Garland could be held in contempt of Congress. Ms Crockett called out Ms Greene for her comments, leading to a heated exchange that involved other lawmakers, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Following the incident, top Democrat Jamie Raskin called for an investigation into potential alcohol involvement among House Republicans who attended Mr Trump’s trial in Manhattan. Despite the controversy, Ms Crockett is launching a merch line to commemorate her viral comment and raise funds for Democratic campaigns.

The ongoing feud between Ms Crockett and Ms Greene highlights the deep political divisions in Congress and the intense confrontations that can arise during hearings. The incident serves as a reminder of the challenges lawmakers face in maintaining civility and respect in the political arena.
