Report: Fanatics files lawsuit against Cardinals rookie Marvin Harrison Jr. for alleged contract violation

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Marvin Harrison Jr., the No. 4 overall pick in the NFL draft, is making headlines for his unconventional approach both on and off the field. The Ohio State standout opted to skip workouts at the scouting combine and his school’s Pro Day to focus on preparing for the upcoming NFL season. Now, even after the draft, Harrison continues to forge his own path by not signing a preliminary licensing agreement with the NFL Players Association.

While it is standard practice for anticipated draftees to sign such agreements, Harrison has chosen to hold off. Speculation abounds as to why he has not signed, with some suggesting that he may be looking to retain his full rights and explore other opportunities to monetize his name and likeness.

Despite not having an NFLPA deal, Harrison does have a memorabilia agreement with Fanatics. However, things took a turn when Fanatics filed a lawsuit against the star wideout, claiming breach of contract and citing an agreement worth over $1 million dating back to last May. Harrison denies the existence of such an agreement.

As a result of not signing with the NFLPA, Harrison’s fans still cannot purchase his jerseys or see him featured in NFL-licensed video games like “Madden.” It remains to be seen how this situation will unfold and what it means for the young player’s future in the league.
