Memphis Pastor Returns to Pulpit After Being Shot in the Mouth During Car Theft
In a remarkable display of resilience and faith, Pastor Clemmie Livingston, Jr. of New Zionfield Baptist Church in South Memphis returned to the pulpit on Easter Sunday, just five weeks after being shot in the mouth by criminals as they stole his car outside the church.
Despite the harrowing ordeal, the 70-year-old preacher delivered a powerful sermon to his congregation, sharing his experience of facing death and finding the strength to keep living. Livingston recounted how he never lost consciousness or felt any pain during the chaotic incident, crediting his survival to a higher power.
“I know that Jesus brought me through this,” Livingston said. “It appears to me that God has some plans for me.”
While Livingston still faces at least two more surgeries on his road to recovery, he remains grateful for the opportunity to continue his mission. He expressed his intention to use his experience to help prevent young people from turning to a life of crime, emphasizing the importance of providing guidance and support to those in need.
As the pastor continues his healing journey, his congregation stands by him, inspired by his unwavering faith and determination. Despite the challenges ahead, Livingston remains focused on his calling and the impact he can make in the community.
