Ramzan Kadyrov, the powerful ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin and leader of Chechnya, is reportedly battling pancreatic necrosis, according to a report by the Moscow Times. This serious health condition was diagnosed five years ago, with sources at the Moscow presidential hospital confirming his treatment for the disease.
The Kremlin is now said to be working on a succession plan to ensure stability in the region as Kadyrov’s health deteriorates. Known for his strongman tactics, Kadyrov’s forces have been actively involved in the conflict in Ukraine, fighting alongside Russian troops.
Last year, rumors circulated on social media about Kadyrov’s health, specifically regarding kidney problems. In response, Kadyrov appeared in videos to dispel the speculations.
Pancreatic necrosis is a severe complication of acute pancreatitis, leading to organ failure and potentially death. A source close to Kadyrov’s ally, Adam Delimkhanov, expressed concerns about the impact of the illness on Kadyrov’s future.
Reports from Newsweek and Novaya Gazeta Europe have also highlighted Kadyrov’s health struggles, with a source at the Moscow Clinical Hospital revealing distressing findings from an MRS scan of his brain.
Despite these alarming reports, Russian authorities have not officially commented on Kadyrov’s health. The Chechen leader has been ruling with an iron fist since his appointment by Putin in 2007, overseeing the region’s recovery from the devastating wars of the 1990s and early 2000s.
