San Diego, CA – A recent report by WalletHub has ranked San Diego as the fourth healthiest city in the U.S. The study, titled the 2024 Healthiest and Unhealthiest Cities in America report, compared 182 of the most populous cities in the country across 41 key indicators of good health.

According to the report, San Diego excelled in several areas related to health and wellness. The city ranked first in hiking trails per capita, ninth in healthy restaurants per capita, and 15th in the share of physically active adults. However, San Diego did rank 36th in the percentage of adults with 14 or more mental unhealthy days reported in the past month, and 95th in dietitians and nutritionists per capita.

In addition to San Diego, two other cities in San Diego County were included in the report. Oceanside ranked 45th overall, with a strong showing in the share of physically active adults but a lower ranking in hiking trails per capita. Chula Vista ranked 93rd overall, with a higher ranking in the percentage of adults with mental unhealthy days reported but a lower ranking in healthy restaurants per capita.

Overall, San Francisco claimed the top spot as the healthiest city in the U.S., followed by Honolulu, Hawaii, and Seattle, Washington. On the other end of the spectrum, Brownsville, Texas, landed in the last spot on the list.

The report highlights the importance of access to high-quality healthcare, green spaces, recreation centers, and healthy food in promoting a healthy lifestyle. Residents of San Diego can take pride in their city’s ranking as one of the healthiest in the nation.
