Boxing fans can breathe a sigh of relief as Ryan Garcia has been cleared of a potential positive drug test for the 19-Norandrosterone metabolite. The news was reported by veteran boxing reporter Dan Rafael, who confirmed that Garcia’s results from Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry (IRMS) came back negative.
However, Garcia’s troubles are not completely over as he tested positive for the banned substance ostarine in samples collected before and after his recent win over Devin Haney. Garcia’s team has requested the testing of a B-sample to contest these findings, with results expected to be revealed on May 22.
Despite the allegations, Garcia has vehemently denied knowingly using any performance-enhancing drugs and took to Twitter to express his relief at the latest update. He also made a bold statement, allowing his next opponent to use steroids while he only consumes oranges for a month before the fight.
Garcia’s victory over Haney via majority decision marked a significant moment in his career, as it was the first defeat for Haney in 32 pro bouts. However, Garcia’s failure to make weight meant he was ineligible to win Haney’s WBC super lightweight title.
Haney, on the other hand, did not hold back in his response to Garcia’s comments, calling him out for his alleged dirty tactics. As the boxing world awaits the results of Garcia’s B-sample, the controversy surrounding the young fighter continues to unfold.
