The decision to remove Fish was made by the state party chair, Dave Williams, who accused her of unfair reporting on the party. Williams, who is currently running for Congress, has a history of controversial statements and actions, including supporting conspiracy theories about the 2020 election and the January 6 insurrection.

In a show of defiance, the chair of the Colorado Democratic party openly invited all press to their upcoming assembly, contrasting their approach with the actions of the state Republican party.
