Morgantown Mohigans Dominate Shadyside Relays

SHADYSIDE — Morgantown head girls track coach Steve Blinko had a triumphant homecoming at the 53rd annual Shadyside Relays as his Mohigans claimed both the girls’ and boys’ team titles at Fleming Field.

The Mohigan girls dominated the competition, racking up 152 points to secure the team title. Standout performances from Jennifer Palko in the 800 and 1600 meters, along with victories from Sasha Hunter, Emma Smith, and Charlee Dunlap in various events, propelled Morgantown to victory. The girls’ relay teams also shined, taking first place in the 4×200, 4×400, and 4×800 relays.

On the boys’ side, Morgantown continued their winning streak with a total of 138 points, securing the team title. Individual victories from Zachary Workman and Evan Stacy, along with strong performances from the relay teams, contributed to their success.

Local standout Gwyn Lori from Caldwell set meet records in the discus and shot put, showcasing her exceptional talent. Union Local’s Johnny Sabinski also impressed, setting a new meet record in the discus and winning the shot put event.

Other notable performances included Shadyside’s Nathan Booth narrowly missing a meet record in the 110 high hurdles and Wheeling Central’s Braden McWreath and JJ White claiming individual titles in the 100 and 400 meters, respectively.

Overall, the Shadyside Relays provided an exciting showcase of talent and athleticism, with Morgantown emerging as the dominant force in both the girls’ and boys’ competitions.
