The changing profile of patients is also a cause for concern, with men in their early twenties now being affected by liver cirrhosis, a condition previously seen in older age groups. Dr. Rajesh Dhume, a senior psychiatrist, highlighted the shift in drinking patterns, with younger individuals consuming larger quantities of alcohol in a single sitting.

Globally, alcohol consumption remains a major concern, with one in three people drinking alcohol and millions of deaths attributed to alcohol-related health problems each year. The impact of alcohol extends beyond the liver, affecting various organ systems and increasing the risk of diseases and disorders.

To address the growing issue of alcohol-related liver diseases, World Liver Day is observed on April 19 every year to raise awareness and promote healthy liver practices. Experts recommend limiting alcohol consumption, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and seeking medical assistance if symptoms of liver disease, such as fatigue, jaundice, or abdominal discomfort, arise. By adopting responsible drinking practices and making lifestyle changes, individuals can protect their liver health and overall well-being.
