Results of Stage 1 of the 2024 Giro d’Italia

Jhonatan Narvaez of Ineos Grenadiers emerged victorious in Stage 1 of the 2024 Giro d’Italia, a thrilling 140km race from Venaria Reale to Torino. This stage not only kickstarted the Corsa Rosa but also determined the first Maglia Rosa of the race.

In a closely contested finish, Maximilian Schachmann from Bora – Hansgrohe secured the second spot, followed by Tadej Pogacar of UAE Team Emirates in third place.

After crossing the finish line, an elated Narvaez expressed his joy, stating, “It’s a great feeling. We had planned this with the team but I had to follow Pogacar and it still hurts me now. He went really hard but at the end I made it. In the sprint, I think he went too long. It’s amazing. We don’t have many opportunities in a Grand Tour to win a stage. Especially this one. It puts me in the Maglia Rosa. I had dreamt of this jersey. It’s been very difficult to get it.”

The General Classification after Stage 1 stands as follows:
1. Jhonatan Narvaez (Ineos Grenadiers)
2. Maximilian Schachmann (Bora – Hansgrohe) at 3″
3. Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) at 6″

Narvaez not only claimed the Maglia Rosa but also the Maglia Ciclamino for leading the Points Classification. Other jersey winners include Lilian Calmejane for the Maglia Azzurra and Alex Baudin for the Maglia Bianca.
