Retailers Call on Government for Intervention Regarding POCO’s Business Practices | Company News

The South Indian Organised Retailers Association (ORA) is gearing up to take on POCO, a sub-brand of Xiaomi, over alleged unfair and unethical business practices that are harming legitimate sales channels and causing financial losses to the government exchequer.

According to the ORA, POCO is deliberately avoiding supplying phones to mainline channels and instead opting for online and “illegitimate” channels to cut costs. This, the retailers body claims, is depriving consumers of a proper buying experience and also hindering employment generation in India.

The association pointed out that POCO operates with just three distributors and no sales promoters, unlike other major smartphone brands in the market. ORA is now seeking the central government’s intervention to address these issues and ensure ethical business conduct in the country.

Despite several attempts to engage with POCO’s leadership team, the retailers body has not received a response, prompting them to escalate the matter to the Ministry and relevant departments post the Lok Sabha elections. ORA is even prepared to file a case with the Competition Commission of India (CCI) to hold POCO accountable and bring transparency to the smartphone market.

POCO officials have not commented on the allegations made by ORA. The association is determined to take swift action against POCO and set a precedent for ethical business practices in the industry. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
