The Fort Dodge baseball team faced a tough challenge against Des Moines East in a doubleheader at Ed McNeil Field on Wednesday night. Despite a valiant effort, the Dodgers fell short in both games, losing 9-5 and 13-9.
The Scarlets capitalized on FDSH miscues in the first two innings of each game, taking an early lead and holding on for the victories. Dodger head coach Blake Utley acknowledged the team’s slow start but praised their resilience in battling back.
In the opener, Fort Dodge showed signs of life in the fifth inning, scoring five runs highlighted by a three-run homer from Karch Smith. Senior Landen Hout made a stellar pitching debut, striking out four batters in five innings of work.
In the second game, the Dodgers struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities, leaving too many runners on base. Despite the losses, Utley remains confident in the team’s potential and is optimistic about their growth as they continue to play.
Fort Dodge will look to bounce back as they head to Mason City before facing Sioux City East and Sioux City West in upcoming games. The team is determined to learn from their mistakes and improve as the season progresses.
