Rich Correll’s ‘Hollywood’s Icons of Darkness’ Surpasses 2000 Collectors

Los Angeles, California–(Newsfile Corp. – April 17, 2024) – Hollywood’s Icons of Darkness has made a significant acquisition by obtaining the original Chewbacca costume from the 1977 film “Star Wars: IV A New Hope.” Collector and TV Director Rich Correll sold the iconic Industrial Light and Magic built costume, marking a milestone for his collection, which has now surpassed 2000 items.

Correll’s collection, known for being one of the world’s largest collections of Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Horror film memorabilia, now includes the Chewbacca costume alongside other notable items from the “Star Wars” franchise. This includes Darth Maul’s original costume from “The Phantom Menace” (1999) and Luke Skywalker’s original lightsaber from “Return of the Jedi” (1983).

The recent sale of the Chewbacca costume took place at Heritage Auctions in Dallas, where Correll also acquired other significant pieces such as Angelica Huston’s Morticia costume from “The Addams Family” (1991) and a complete Xenomorph costume from “Aliens” (1986).

Correll, who has been collecting film-used artifacts since 1961, plans to showcase his collection in a new, larger exhibition space. The exhibition, titled “Hollywood’s Icons of Darkness,” is set to open in late 2024 and will be three times larger than its previous location on Hollywood Blvd in Los Angeles.

Correll expressed his excitement about the new exhibition, stating that it is a dream come true to be able to share these artifacts with the public. The exhibition aims to become a hub for fans of Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Horror genres, offering a unique and immersive experience for visitors.
