Sir Richard Branson, the billionaire entrepreneur and philanthropist, has been introduced as a character in the popular computer game Minecraft as part of a fundraising effort for Ukraine. The charity initiative aims to raise funds to rebuild a school in Ukraine, which has been devastated by the ongoing conflict with Russia.

French game developers have created a game within Minecraft called Minesalt, where they have recreated the famous salt mines of Soledar, a city in Donetsk Oblast. Sir Richard expressed his excitement about being a playable character in the game and mentioned that he is looking forward to exploring Minesalt with his grandchildren.

Despite selling his video games division, Virgin Interactive Entertainment (VIE), in the late ’90s, Sir Richard hinted at the possibility of re-entering the gaming market in the future. He stated, “We always look for ways in which Virgin can be a disruptor in the market, so never say never.”

The introduction of Sir Richard as a character in Minecraft comes as he continues to advocate for support for Ukraine and criticize companies still operating in Russia. He has been vocal about the need for further financial and military aid for Ukraine and has urged European governments to take swift action in supporting the country’s rebuilding efforts.

As an ambassador for UNITED24, a charity set up by President Zelenskyy to support the rebuilding of Ukraine, Sir Richard remains committed to using his influence and resources to help the war-torn country recover and thrive once again.
