Renowned Disney composer Richard M. Sherman, known for his iconic songs in films like Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, has passed away at the age of 95 in Beverly Hills. Sherman, who collaborated with his late brother Robert, won two Oscars in 1965 for their work on Mary Poppins.

The duo’s impressive repertoire includes classics like Trust in Me from The Jungle Book and Truly Scrumptious from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Their catchy tune Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious even became a pop hit in 1965.

Sherman’s contributions to the music industry were recognized with three Grammy awards, 24 gold and platinum albums, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2005 and received the US National Medal of the Arts in 2008.

Throughout his 65-year career, Sherman remained a key figure in Disney’s creative circle, composing scores for numerous beloved films like The Aristocats, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, and Winnie the Pooh shorts. His legacy lives on through the timeless songs he created for Disney productions.

Sherman is survived by his wife Elizabeth Sherman, children, and grandchildren. His funeral is scheduled to take place on 31 May in California. The world mourns the loss of a musical genius whose melodies will continue to enchant audiences for generations to come.
