Riot reveals Valorant console beta testing to begin at SGF on June 14

Riot Games, the developer behind the popular free-to-play tactical shooter Valorant, has announced that the game will be coming to consoles. The announcement was made at the Summer Games Fest, where Riot revealed that PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S players in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Europe, and Japan can register for the limited beta test starting June 14.

Arnar Gylfason, production director of Valorant at Riot Games, expressed the importance of maintaining the competitive experience on consoles. He stated, “We were adamant that Valorant core, competitive gameplay must feel natural on a controller; and — if we couldn’t deliver on that gameplay promise — we had to be prepared to walk away from it. We hope we nailed it, but ultimately, our players will have the final say.”

This move marks Riot Games’ entry into the console market, as their flagship title, League of Legends, is not available on consoles. The developer has an existing relationship with Xbox, where Game Pass members can unlock in-game content in some of Riot’s titles. This expansion to consoles will also provide valuable experience for Riot’s upcoming fighting game, 2XKO.

To maintain competitive integrity, Riot will not allow crossplay between the PC and console versions of Valorant. However, players can share their inventory and gameplay progression between platforms. Additionally, Riot plans to release all live patch balances, new agents, maps, premium content, and additional live service features simultaneously across platforms.

Global console players can now register for the limited Valorant beta and learn more about the regional eligibility rollout. This exciting development opens up new opportunities for Valorant players to experience the game on a different platform while maintaining the core competitive gameplay that has made it a success.
