The Biden campaign has launched a new ad narrated by actor Robert De Niro, aiming to remind voters of the chaos of Donald Trump’s presidency and warn them of the potential dangers of a second Trump term. The $14 million ad will air on television and digital platforms in battleground states, as well as on national cable channels.
The ad opens with De Niro’s voiceover playing over images of Trump during the coronavirus pandemic and Black Lives Matter protests, highlighting Trump’s controversial actions during his presidency. De Niro accuses Trump of trying to hold onto power and threatening to rule as a dictator if he wins the 2024 election.
The Biden campaign believes that voters need to be reminded of the stark choice between Biden and Trump, two historically unpopular candidates. The upcoming debate between Biden and Trump in Atlanta on June 27 will serve as a key moment for voters to see the candidates side by side.
Campaign chair Jennifer O’Malley Dillon stated that the campaign will focus on defining Trump as dangerous and unhinged, emphasizing the chaos and harm he caused during his presidency. The campaign will also highlight key issues such as abortion, democracy, and economic fairness leading up to the debate.
O’Malley Dillon also took a jab at Trump, suggesting he may not even show up to the debate. The ad is the first step in a month-long effort to set the narrative for the debate and make the election a referendum on Trump’s presidency as much as on Biden’s candidacy.
