Former JetBlue CEO Robin Hayes is making a comeback in the aviation industry, taking on the role of chairman and CEO of Airbus Americas. Hayes retired from JetBlue in February due to health reasons but has now announced his return to the industry with Airbus.

Hayes will be stepping into the shoes of C. Jeffrey Knittel, who is retiring from his position at Airbus Americas. The transition is set to take place on June 3, according to a press release from Airbus.

In a statement, Hayes expressed his excitement and energy to join Airbus and contribute to the company’s success in the region. He highlighted Airbus’ commitment to safety and decarbonization as key factors that motivated him to take on this new role.

With nearly 16 years of experience at JetBlue, including nine years as CEO, Hayes brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to Airbus. He also has a background in the aviation industry, having worked for British Airways for over 19 years in various roles.

During his time at JetBlue, Hayes led the airline through significant growth and expansion, including the development of the Mint business-class product and the launch of new routes to Europe. He also spearheaded partnerships and acquisitions, although some of these efforts were unsuccessful.

Hayes will now oversee Airbus’ commercial business in North America, which includes a workforce of 10,000 employees across 50 sites, including the company’s assembly plant in Mobile, Alabama. He will report to Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury, who expressed his excitement to have Hayes on board to help achieve the company’s strategic objectives in the region.
