Stuart Bingham has dashed Ronnie O’Sullivan’s hopes of winning a record eighth World Snooker Championship title at The Crucible in Sheffield. The tournament, which runs from April 20 to May 6, has seen some surprising results, with Bingham knocking out the Rocket in the quarter-finals.
O’Sullivan, who equaled Stephen Hendry’s record of seven Crucible crowns in 2022, was on course to face Judd Trump in the semi-finals. However, Trump was defeated 13-9 by Welsh qualifier Jack Jones in a shocking upset.
In the semi-finals, Bingham found himself tied at 4-4 with Jones after the opening session, while Kyren Wilson and David Gilbert were also deadlocked at the same score. The competition is heating up as the remaining players battle it out for a spot in the final.
The World Snooker Championship follows a rigorous format, with matches ranging from the best of 19 frames in the first round to the best of 35 frames in the final. Players who achieve a maximum 147 break are rewarded with £40,000, adding an extra layer of excitement to the competition.
With a prize money of £500,000 for the winner, the stakes are high as the players aim to etch their names in snooker history. As the tournament progresses, fans eagerly await to see who will emerge victorious and claim the prestigious title of World Snooker Champion for 2024.
