Golf champion Rory McIlroy has filed for divorce from his wife Erica Stoll, citing their marriage as “irretrievably broken”. The couple, who first met in 2012 at the Ryder Cup and share a three-year-old daughter named Poppy Kennedy, got married in 2017 in a lavish ceremony at Ashford Castle in Ireland.

Rory, 35, filed for divorce in Florida on Monday, with his representative confirming the news to Page Six. The representative stated that Rory wants to ensure the process is as respectful and amicable as possible and will not be making any further comments on the matter.

Erica, a tennis fanatic who was working as a PGA transport official when she met Rory, played a significant role in their relationship. In a 2019 interview, Rory recalled how Erica helped him out when he overslept and got him a police escort to the golf course.

This divorce comes after Rory’s previous high-profile split from tennis star Caroline Wozniacki in 2014, just months before they were set to wed. Despite the personal turmoil, Rory recently won his second straight PGA Tour event in Charlotte, North Carolina, marking the 26th win of his career.

As the news of Rory and Erica’s divorce spreads, fans and followers of the golf champion are left wondering about the future of his personal life and career.
