RTA introduces ‘Bus on Demand’ service to Business Bay in Dubai – UAE

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the expansion of its ‘Bus on Demand’ service to Business Bay after a successful trial period. The initiative, which aims to enhance the mass transit network and alleviate congestion in key areas, has been well-received by public transport users.

Adel Shakri, Director of Planning and Business Development at RTA’s Public Transport Agency, highlighted the importance of extending the service to Business Bay, a bustling hub for corporate offices and businesses in the emirate. He emphasized the convenience of the service, especially as it now includes key areas and connects to a metro and tram station, providing passengers with a seamless and integrated public transport experience.

The ‘Bus on Demand’ service operates on a smart response system that adjusts bus availability based on user demand. Using mini public buses and a smart app, customers can specify their journey and pay the applicable fares, making it an efficient solution for first and last-mile trips. The service also links residential areas to the nearest mass transit stations, ensuring accessibility and convenience for passengers.

Before launching the service, RTA conducted a thorough field survey to assess various criteria such as demographics, vehicle ownership rates, proximity to public transport stations, and preferred mobility options. The initiative was also benchmarked against international best practices from countries like Spain, Germany, the United States, and Finland to ensure its effectiveness and sustainability.

The Dubai Bus On Demand app, available on both Apple Store and Google Play Store, allows users to book 14-seater buses with flexible schedules and timings. Drivers can communicate directly with passengers via the app, ensuring a personalized and efficient service. Currently, the service covers areas such as Al Barsha, Al Nahda, Dubai Silicon Oasis, and Business Bay, with plans for further expansion to other parts of the emirate later this year.

Overall, the expansion of the ‘Bus on Demand’ service to Business Bay represents RTA’s commitment to enhancing public transport options and addressing the evolving needs of commuters in Dubai. With its focus on convenience, efficiency, and sustainability, the initiative is set to play a crucial role in improving the overall transportation experience for residents and visitors alike.
