Rubiales required to appear in court monthly and obtain permission to leave Spain

Former Spanish Football Federation chief Luis Rubiales has been ordered to appear before a local court in Madrid at least once a month and will need permission to leave the country, a Spanish judge ruled on Monday. This decision comes as Rubiales is under investigation for alleged corruption in a probe involving unfair administration and business corruption.

The investigation stems from a deal between the RFEF and Gerard Pique’s Kosmos firm to relocate the Spanish Super Cup to Saudi Arabia in a deal worth 120 million euros. Rubiales has denied any wrongdoing in the deal and expressed confidence that justice will prevail.

After testifying before the court, Rubiales stated, “There has never, ever been any money received in an irregular manner under my watch. There has never been any irregular bidding. In short, we have always acted with the utmost excellence and in the pursuit of legality.”

Rubiales, who was in the Dominican Republic on a business trip, returned to Spain in April after being informed by police that he was a suspect in the corruption probe. Police have conducted searches of RFEF offices and properties linked to the investigation, leading to the arrest of seven individuals.

In addition to the corruption probe, Rubiales is facing separate allegations of sexual assault and coercion after being banned by FIFA for allegedly kissing a player without consent. Despite these challenges, Rubiales remains steadfast in his denial of any wrongdoing and is committed to cooperating with the legal process.
