Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani made headlines after he visited Columbia University and criticized pro-Palestinian protesters, calling them “terribly misguided people.” Giuliani, known for his outspoken opinions, also called for the resignation of university president Minouche Shafik due to her handling of the crisis.

During his visit to the university, Giuliani was seen wearing an American flag-printed shirt and a Yankees cap as he passed by protesters holding signs. He later expressed his disdain for the demonstrators on his 77 WABC show, questioning their motives and actions.

Giuliani’s comments sparked controversy, with reporters being pushed away by NYPD officers as he discussed the situation. He even went as far as comparing Columbia University to Harvard, asking his listeners, “Who hates Jews more, Harvard or Columbia?”

The protesters at Columbia had set up an encampment a week prior, demanding that the school divest from Israel and companies associated with its war efforts. Giuliani criticized Shafik for her handling of the situation, calling her “a hateful person” and playing an old clip of her discussing terrorism in the Middle East.

Calls for Shafik’s resignation have been made by several lawmakers, including House Speaker Mike Johnson. However, a university spokesperson stated that Shafik is focused on deescalating tensions on campus and is working with various stakeholders to address the situation.
