Rural Health Clinics to Receive Accreditation from Joint Commission

The Joint Commission has introduced a new accreditation program for rural health clinics seeking Medicare reimbursement, with the goal of improving the safety and quality of care in underserved communities. This program, which has received initial deeming authority from CMS, will help standardize care delivery and reduce variation to enhance patient outcomes.

Rural health clinics eligible for this accreditation must meet all state and federal requirements, including location, staffing, and healthcare services. They will also have to adhere to The Joint Commission’s standards based on CMS Conditions for Certification, with a focus on key operational areas such as emergency preparedness, infection control, medication management, and staff competency.
