In a dramatic escalation of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, both countries reported a significant number of drones shot down over their territories overnight. Russia claimed to have shot down around 60 drones and several missiles, while Ukraine said it destroyed over 30 Russian drones.
The Russian Defense Ministry announced that 57 Ukrainian drones were shot down over its southern Krasnodar region, with debris from one drone hitting an oil refinery in the town of Slavyansk-on-Kuban. Despite the impact, no fire or damage was reported at the refinery. In a separate incident, nine long-range ballistic missiles and a drone were destroyed over the Russia-occupied Crimean Peninsula.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian air defense forces successfully shot down all 37 Russian drones launched against the country overnight. In the northeastern Kharkiv region, where Russia recently launched a new offensive, one person was reported dead and 11 wounded as a result of shelling over the previous day.
The conflict in Ukraine’s war-ravaged northeast continues to intensify, with Ukrainian troops fighting to halt Russian advances in the Kharkiv region. The situation remains volatile, with both sides engaging in drone warfare and missile attacks. The international community is closely monitoring the situation, hoping for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict.
