Russia says US aid to Ukraine will not impact military situation

Russia has dismissed the impact of fresh US aid for Ukraine on the ongoing military situation, as Washington prepares for a crucial vote on long-stalled military funding for Kyiv. The $61 billion package of funding for Ukraine, which has been delayed due to political infighting in the Republican Party, is now set to move forward.

Despite Ukraine’s struggles on the battlefield against Russian forces, the Kremlin remains unfazed by the prospect of increased Western military aid. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the situation on the frontlines is currently unfavorable for Ukraine and that additional aid will not change the dynamics.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has emphasized the urgency of receiving the funding, stating that the delay has cost lives and territory. Kyiv relies on Western support to counter the Russian offensive, with Washington being its most significant military backer throughout the conflict.

As the aid debate continues, both Russia and Ukraine have escalated aerial attacks, targeting military and energy facilities. Ukraine has urged businesses to conserve energy during peak hours to prevent blackouts following Russian strikes.

The ongoing conflict has also seen Ukrainian forces targeting Russian oil refineries and claiming to have struck a large Russian airfield in Crimea. Meanwhile, Russian shelling in eastern Ukraine has resulted in casualties, highlighting the continued violence in the region.
