Russian Diplomatic Missions Could Be Established in Three African Countries

Russia is making strategic moves to strengthen its diplomatic presence in Africa, as reported by the Russian news publication Sputnik. The head of the Consular Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Aleksey Klimov, revealed plans to open diplomatic missions in several African countries.

The countries on Russia’s radar for this plan include South Sudan, Niger, and Sierra Leone. Klimov emphasized that efforts to increase Russian diplomacy representation and expand consular presence in friendly nations are ongoing. The possibility of opening diplomatic missions in the mentioned African countries is currently being analyzed.

Furthermore, Russia has already taken steps to open embassies in Burkina Faso and Equatorial Guinea, with agreements in place with the host nations. Other non-African countries like Armenia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Indonesia, and Maldives are also part of this diplomatic expansion plan.

The recent meeting between military authorities from Burkina Faso and Russia in Moscow last November highlights the growing ties between the two nations. Additionally, Moscow recently inaugurated the House of Africa, a central platform for diplomatic, business, and cultural activities aimed at enhancing Russian-African relations.

The House of Africa will serve as a hub for Russian round table sessions, forums, and meetings with African delegations. It will also provide essential information for Russian businesses interested in the African market. Russia’s renewed focus on Africa signifies its commitment to strengthening ties and expanding its influence on the continent.
