Russian troops make progress in eastern Ukraine

Russia’s army has made significant advances in eastern Ukraine, particularly near Avdiivka in the Donetsk region. The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported that Moscow’s forces had gained ground in Ocheretyne, with footage showing a Russian flag flying above the wrecked village. Despite these advances, the ISW noted that Russian forces did not have full control of the area.

Ukrainian military chiefs estimate that up to 25,000 Russian troops are attempting to storm Chasiv Yar and surrounding settlements in Donetsk. This strategic move aims to capture key points for further advances toward cities like Kostiantynivka, Kramatorsk, and Sloviansk.

In response to the escalating conflict, the Pentagon is set to send $1 billion in new military aid to Ukraine, with the UK and Lithuania also providing additional support. Concerns have been raised about delays in Western aid potentially aiding Russia’s offensive, with analysts highlighting the need for timely assistance to bolster Ukraine’s defenses.

Russian Defense Minister Shoigu has announced plans to increase attacks on logistics centers and storage bases for Western weapons in Ukraine in response to the US aid bill. The situation remains tense, with Ukrainian forces previously withdrawing from Avdiivka due to a lack of necessary military equipment.
