Casper Ruud Claims Third Geneva Title Ahead of French Open

In a thrilling final match on Saturday, Casper Ruud emerged victorious against Tomas Machac to secure his third Geneva title and head into the French Open with a winning streak. The Norwegian, currently ranked number seven in the world, defeated the 44th-ranked Czech player in a 7-5, 6-3 showdown that lasted nearly two hours.

Ruud, who has previously won the Geneva title in 2021 and 2022, is no stranger to success on the Parc des Eaux-Vives clay courts. With two French Open runner-up finishes under his belt, the 25-year-old is determined to make a strong showing in Paris this year. In fact, Ruud has been dominating the ATP tour this season, winning more matches than any other player.

After his victory, Ruud expressed his satisfaction with the win, acknowledging the challenges he faced throughout the tournament. He credited his success to being on the right side of the margins and hoped to carry that momentum into the upcoming weeks.

The Geneva tournament, which serves as a warm-up for the French Open, saw Ruud play back-to-back matches on the final day. Despite a tough semi-final match against Flavio Cobolli earlier in the day, Ruud managed to come out on top and secure the title.

Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic’s decision to play in Geneva in an attempt to regain his form ahead of the French Open backfired, as he was defeated by Machac in the semi-finals. The loss left the world number one feeling uncertain about his title defense in Paris.

For Machac, the victory over Djokovic and his subsequent run to the final marked a significant milestone in his career, propelling him to a career-high ranking of 34 in the world. The young Czech player’s impressive performance in Geneva has put him on the map as a rising star in the tennis world.
