Sabah Tourism Ministry to Launch Hotline for Tourists Facing Travel Issues
In a bid to address the growing issue of homestay scammers targeting tourists in Sabah, the state’s Tourism, Culture, and Environment Ministry will be launching a hotline for travelers encountering problems during their stay. Minister Datuk Christina Liew announced that the hotline, to be operated under the Sabah Tourism Board (STB), will allow for prompt responses to tourist concerns.
Liew emphasized the importance of addressing such activities, which have been affecting the tourism industry in Sabah. Previously, cases of homestay scams had to be reported to the police, but now tourists can directly contact the hotline managed by STB. This initiative aims to provide immediate assistance and investigation into reported matters.
During a press conference held in Kota Kinabalu, Liew highlighted the need for a dedicated hotline to manage crisis situations and untoward events faced by tourists in Sabah. The move comes in response to the increasing presence of homestay scammers advertising their services on social media platforms like Facebook, prompting warnings from the Sabah police.
Tourists visiting Sabah are encouraged to report any issues they encounter to the newly established hotline, ensuring that swift action can be taken to address their concerns. The initiative is part of the ministry’s efforts to safeguard the interests of travelers and maintain the state’s reputation as a safe and welcoming destination.
