Sabah to Introduce Hotline for Tourists Dealing with Travel Problems, Including Homestay Scams

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Sabah Tourism, Culture, and Environment Ministry is taking a proactive step to address issues faced by tourists in the state, particularly those involving homestay scammers. Minister Datuk Christina Liew announced the launch of a hotline under the Sabah Tourism Board (STB) to assist tourists in distress.

Liew emphasized the importance of addressing such issues promptly, stating that cases involving homestay scammers would be referred to STB for immediate action. The hotline will enable tourists to report any concerns they encounter during their travels in Sabah, allowing STB to dispatch personnel to investigate and resolve the issues efficiently.

The minister’s announcement comes in response to the increasing activities of homestay scammers who use social media platforms like Facebook to lure unsuspecting tourists. Sabah police have also issued warnings about these scammers, urging the public to be cautious when engaging with such services.

The initiative to establish a dedicated hotline for tourists reflects the ministry’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of visitors in Sabah. By providing a direct channel for reporting issues, STB aims to enhance the overall tourism experience and protect tourists from falling victim to fraudulent activities.

Tourists visiting Sabah can now have peace of mind knowing that help is just a phone call away, thanks to the new hotline set up by the Sabah Tourism, Culture, and Environment Ministry.
