Sabah Tourism Ministry to Launch Hotline for Tourists Facing Travel Issues

KOTA KINABALU, June 7 ― The Sabah Tourism, Culture, and Environment Ministry will be introducing a hotline for tourists encountering problems during their travels in the state, particularly those involving homestay scammers, announced Minister Datuk Christina Liew.

The hotline, which will be operated under the Sabah Tourism Board (STB), aims to address tourist concerns promptly by dispatching personnel to investigate reported issues.

Liew emphasized the importance of tackling activities such as homestay scams, which have been openly advertised on social media platforms like Facebook. The Sabah police have also issued warnings to the public regarding these scams.

The announcement was made during a press conference held in conjunction with the upcoming International Women’s Conference 2024, scheduled to take place on August 14 and 15 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC).

The conference, organized by the Sabah Women Entrepreneurs and Professionals Association (SWEPA), aims to bring together 500 women and male entrepreneurs, professionals, government officials, and management leaders from various countries including the USA, India, Singapore, and the Philippines.

Minister Liew encouraged more Malaysian women in Sabah to participate in the conference, which focuses on empowering women leaders, breaking barriers, and shaping the future. The event will feature speakers covering critical dimensions such as personal development, global leadership, economic empowerment, and environmental justice.

Additionally, panel sessions will address topics like leadership journey, work-life harmony, and e-commerce & digitalization. The conference will also include forums on women leadership, transformation, and lifestyle, as well as exhibitions showcasing products and services by SWEPA members.

During the press conference, Minister Liew announced a sponsorship of RM100,000 to support the event, highlighting the government’s commitment to empowering women and promoting tourism in Sabah. ― The Borneo Post
