In an epic showdown at Maehara Stadium, the Maui High School baseball team emerged victorious over crosstown rival Baldwin in a thrilling 10-inning game on Friday night. The Sabers secured a 4-3 win in a game that lasted nearly 4 hours, showcasing their resilience and determination.

The game remained scoreless through six innings, with both starting pitchers, Aaron Omuro of Maui High and Kip Watanabe of Baldwin, delivering stellar performances on the mound. Omuro reached his pitch limit after 112 pitches, allowing only one run and striking out five batters.

The Sabers broke the deadlock in the seventh inning when Nariyuki Dumlao scored on a wild pitch, giving them a 1-0 lead. However, Baldwin quickly responded, tying the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the inning.

The game continued to be a back-and-forth battle, with both teams fighting hard to gain the upper hand. In the 10th inning, Maui High’s Marcus Mamuad and Trey Shimabukuro scored on Ekolu Arai’s two-run double, putting the Sabers ahead 4-1.

Baldwin mounted a late comeback in the bottom of the 10th, scoring two runs to make it 4-3. However, the Sabers’ defense held strong, securing the hard-fought victory.

With this win, Maui High remains undefeated in Maui Interscholastic League play, while Baldwin falls to 6-2. The two teams are set to face off again in another crucial game, highlighting the intense rivalry between these powerhouse schools.
