According to a recent survey conducted by Talker Research and commissioned by Ancestral Supplements, chronic pain is a prevalent issue among Americans. The survey of 2,000 Americans revealed that three in 10 individuals have had zero days completely pain-free in the last month, and 28% experience some form of pain every single day. Nearly half of the respondents reported suffering from chronic pain, whether diagnosed or not, with 26% dealing with it for 13 years or longer.
The average age at which Americans start to feel aches and pains is 37 years old, with the most common areas of pain being the legs, neck, and shoulders. Some respondents noted that their back was their biggest pain point. On days when individuals wake up in pain, it takes them an average of seven minutes longer to get ready in the morning.
When it comes to seeking answers for chronic pain, 75% of respondents consult their doctors, while 48% turn to Google for help. The most frustrating aspects of living with chronic pain include not feeling like themselves, increased fatigue, constant sleep disruption, and having to give up activities they love.
To address their chronic pain, Americans are willing to make sacrifices. A quarter of respondents said they would give up coffee, while others are willing to part ways with social media and even cheese in order to feel better. On average, Americans are willing to pay $1,800 to get answers about their pain.
In terms of managing daily ailments, respondents reported using heating pads, starting to exercise, and taking supplements other than vitamins. Some of the supplements that respondents expressed interest in trying to ease their pain include iron, fish oil, turmeric, and colostrum.
Despite their efforts, 80% of respondents with chronic pain are still searching for a solution, with 78% more likely to try natural remedies before opting for surgery. Chris Ricci, Chief Executive Officer at Ancestral Supplements, emphasized the importance of prevention in maintaining overall well-being and highlighted the availability of natural solutions to support the body in managing daily aches and pains.
The survey was conducted between April 12 and April 17, 2024, and included 2,000 Americans. The findings shed light on the significant impact of chronic pain on individuals’ daily lives and the ongoing search for effective solutions to alleviate pain and improve quality of life.
