SAIC unveils groundbreaking foundational technologies

SAIC, one of China’s leading automakers, unveiled its latest breakthrough base technologies, including solid-state batteries and intelligent chassis, at a recent conference. The company’s “seven technology bases” aim to revolutionize the industry with innovations in electric, hybrid, and hydrogen vehicles, as well as cutting-edge solutions for batteries, electric drives, and intelligent vehicles.

Vice President Zu Xijie emphasized the importance of mastering core technologies and obtaining patents to compete on a global scale. SAIC’s highlight technologies include solid-state batteries with higher energy density and safety, as well as an energy closed loop system for sustainable power generation.

The company’s commitment to innovation is evident in the upcoming mass production of the all-solid-state battery, set for 2026. The IM L6 model, equipped with first-generation solid-state batteries, boasts a remarkable battery range of over 1,000 kilometers.

SAIC’s focus on intelligent vehicles has led to the development of a full-stack technology solution supporting L3-level autonomous driving. CEO Li Jun highlighted the importance of enhancing user experience through technology innovation, envisioning a future where cars actively avoid danger.

The collaboration with Audi and SAIC Volkswagen on the “Advanced Digitized Platform” signifies a strategic move towards local cooperation and the development of intelligent electric models tailored for the Chinese market. With China’s auto sales exceeding 30 million units in 2023, SAIC’s cutting-edge technologies are poised to drive the industry forward and solidify its position as a key player in the market.
