Salem’s Carson Rhodes Dominates on the Mound and at the Plate in Win Over Minerva

In a thrilling matchup on Wednesday, Salem senior Carson Rhodes showcased his talent both on the mound and at the plate as the Quakers secured a 4-2 victory over Minerva at Carl Michael Field.

Rhodes was the star of the game, striking out an impressive 13 batters while also going 2-for-4 at the plate. His pitching performance was outstanding, tossing six shutout innings and only allowing two hits and seven walks. In a crucial moment in the second inning, Rhodes faced a bases-loaded jam after walking the first three batters, but he managed to strike out the next three to escape unscathed.

The Quakers’ offense came alive in the fourth inning when Keegan Sommers’ groundout brought in two runs. Both teams managed to score two runs in the seventh inning, but it was Salem’s strong start that ultimately secured the win.

Colin Riesen and Cyle Burt also contributed to the Quaker attack with two hits each, helping the team accumulate seven hits and eight stolen bases. The top of the Salem lineup was particularly effective, with Rhodes, Troy Gibson, Riesen, and Burt all crossing home plate.

With the win, Salem improves to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the Eastern Buckeye Conference, while Minerva falls to 0-7 and 0-3 in the EBC. The Quakers’ victory was a testament to their all-around performance, with solid pitching, timely hitting, and aggressive baserunning leading them to success on the diamond.
