Salisbury High School students showcased their tennis skills in a unique way at the A.C.E. Benefit Tournament, organized by 14-year-old Lucy Barr. The tournament, held on a recent Saturday, featured 28 students dressed up as rappers, sharks, and characters from High School Musical.
The A.C.E. Benefit was started in 2012 by Madeline Hoskins Gansz to support classmates in need. Over the years, siblings Kayla, Julia, and Vance Honeycutt took over the program, with Lucy Barr now leading the charge for the past three years.
A.C.E., which stands for All Children Eating, raises funds for the Salisbury High School food pantry. The pantry provides students with essential items like food, hygiene products, school supplies, and clothing. Thanks to the support of individual donors, the pantry has made a significant impact on the lives of many students and their families.
Centerra Harris, a student support specialist, highlighted the importance of the pantry, especially for the school’s homeless, foster, and newly immigrated students. The pantry has provided necessities like winter coats, book bags, school supplies, and groceries to those in need.
Lucy Barr, a talented tennis player at Salisbury High, expressed her gratitude for being able to make a difference in her community. She emphasized the value of service and community impact, stating, “I am thankful to have been given the opportunity to help my classmates and make an impact in the community.”
The A.C.E. Benefit Tournament continues to uphold its tradition of supporting students in need and making a positive difference in the Salisbury High School community.
