Open AI CEO Sam Altman and his husband Oliver Mulherin have made a significant decision to give away most of their wealth to ‘The Giving Pledge’, a charitable campaign founded by Warren Buffett, Melinda French Gates, and Bill Gates.
In a statement released on the campaign’s website, Altman and Mulherin expressed their gratitude to the people who have contributed to society and paved the way for their success. They emphasized their commitment to paying it forward and supporting technology that creates abundance for people.
The Giving Pledge, established in 2010, encourages wealthy individuals to commit to giving the majority of their wealth to philanthropy either during their lifetimes or in their wills. The campaign has gained international traction, with over 250 individuals from around the world participating.
Notable names on the list of participants include Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan, Elon Musk, and Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw.
Altman and Mulherin, who tied the knot in January this year, are both prominent figures in their respective fields. Altman, 38, is a leading figure in the artificial intelligence (AI) industry and heads the US-based AI research firm OpenAI. Mulherin is a San Francisco-based software engineer.
The couple’s decision to donate most of their wealth to The Giving Pledge reflects their commitment to making a positive impact on the world and supporting causes that align with their values.
